World Masters champion and Australian Masters legend, Gianna Mogentale confirmed earlier this week she will compete in Armidale on Sunday.
Mogentale, preparing for the NSW Masters Championships at Homebush later this month, said she desired a "hit out on a softer surface" while she continues to manage an ongoing achilles injury.
The veteran runner is shooting for more medals at both the Australian Masters Championships and World Masters Championships later this year.
Armidale Athletics Club president Jay Stone was excited at the prospect of Mogentale racing in Armidale.
“She’s someone I’ve marvelled at for years,” he said.
‘It’s going to be great for some of the young girls to realise that running is something they can do for the rest of their lives.”
Mogentale boasts a lengthy resume that includes many Australian titles.
“She hasn’t been beaten in Australia for many years,” Stone said.
“She’s always miles out in front.”
Mogentale specialises in the 200m and 400m, but also boasts a formidable record in the 100m sprint.
More than 200 athletes are expected in Armidale for the Gala Day on Sunday.
