Tom Derickx and Callum Sinclair will be in the city for a whirlwind two-day visit to pass on some pearls of Aussie Rules wisdom to the region’s youngsters.
The Swans’ pair will run a free AFL Super Clinic at Bellevue Oval on Tuesday afternoon open to any young keen Aussie Rules player.
Armidale Auskick’s Rachel Thorsen said the club was excited to host two players at the peak of their sport.
“We are looking forward to meeting them,” she said.
“It’s a great opportunity for them to come out and promote AFL at a grassroots level.”
After flying into the city on Monday, Derickx and Sinclair won’t have much spare time to kick their heels up.
They will visit Ben Venue Public School on Monday afternoon before they travel to Inverell to prepare for a Super Clinic there on Tuesday morning.
Following the Inverell clinic they will be straight back to Armidale for visits to Duval High School and Armidale City Public School.
The trip will culminate with the Super Clinic at Bellevue, which runs from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.
“They have a pretty full schedule,” Thorsen said.
“A big part of what they are trying to do is to promote the game to the under 15s age group as well as primiary.
“The AFL is really trying to grow under 15s involvement.”
Aussie Rules is a rapidly growing sport in northern NSW and in particular Armidale, with Auskick numbers growing by 60 per cent last season.
“Things like this Super Clinic are helping it grow,” Thorsen said.
No registration is required for the Super Clinic, which will be followed by a question and answer session and an opportunity for autographs.
