For the second weekend in a row the club received well in excess of 100 nominations for its 10-race meeting, which includes three heats for the $2000 Armidale Cup.
“135 nominations this week,” Armidale Greyhound Club’s Barry Mitchell said.
“Just huge.
“We could of run another two races for the fifth grade heats and we already have five.
“They wanted us to run 12 races, but we just can’t do that.”
Punters will be licking their lips with fields full including two reserves in all 10 races.
Mitchell was brimming with excitement at the talent packed into the three Armidale Cup fields.
That includes 2015 runner up Porky Teller, who will be back for retribution after missing out by a neck last year.
“The cup heats are fairly even,” Mitchell said.
“Porky Teller, its a little bit out of form at the moment, but he will appreciate the drop in grade.”
Porky Teller starts out of box four in heat two and Mitchell said its main danger starts from box seven.
“Rival Houdini is a very good chance if it leads,” he said.
Mitchell also highlighted a couple of standouts in the first and third heats.
“In the first heat, Specs Valley looks a very good chance,” he said.
“It comes here with very good form.
“And Kingsbrae Looney won’t be far away.
“In heat three Callathumpian looks good.
“He won Tuesday night in Lismore.”
Aside from the Armidale Cup heats, the other big attraction on the day will be the five heats for the Armidale Greyhound Club 5th Grade heats over 365 metres.
Finals for both races will be run on the final day of the carnival next Saturday, February 13.
