Trainers from the region have been on a tear since the start of the new racing season and that continued at the Nambucca River Jockey Club in Bowraville on Saturday.

Armidale trainer Lea Selby and Guyra trainer Paul Grills took out three of the five races on the card at Bowraville.

Grills had a day to remember with two wins and a second from his only three starters on the day.

The Armidale Cup-winning trainer and jockey Jodi Worley kicked things off with a tight victory with Pandanus [$8] in the first.

It was the four-year-old gelding’s maiden win and follows a sixth first up in Inverell a fortnight ago.

Pandanus settled third for Worley and stormed home to beat Vanessa McClennan’s Dream Stepper by a head.

Grills almost had his second win in three races in the third when Pikari Star [$4.20] finished a head behind Haradi’s Eagle [$13].

But the Guyra trainer didn’t have to wait much longer to complete his double with First Position [$2.60] taking out the fifth and final event of the day.

The win was also the five-year-old mare’s first of her career and was done in convincing fashion.

Worley took First Position straight to the front and she remained there throughout, kicking away to win by a length-and-a-half.

Selby had her winner in race four with Moss Garden [$5].

The eight-year-old gelding was the outsider of the four-horse field, but he raced like an odds-on favourite to streak in by five lengths.

The success could continue for the pair later this week with a number of Armidale and Guyra horses scheduled to be in action on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Grills has seven horses nominated over Friday’s meeting in Coffs Harbour, Saturday’s Gunnedah meeting and Grafton on Sunday, while Selby has four nominated across Gunnedah and Grafton.
