Police were called to Butler Lane late Wednesday afternoon after reports of a dispute in the area.
Officers have been told a woman came out of her house in an attempt to calm a man down who was swearing in the street.
Another resident tried to intervene but retreated inside his home after he was allegedly pushed by the offender.
Investigations are continuing but police have been told the man armed himself with a golf club and allegedly smashed six windows of the neighbour’s house before entering the unit to find the resident.
The victim managed to escape and ran outside before he was chased by the alleged offender, who climbed onto the top of a utility, but fell.
The alleged offender suffered a broken ankle and was taken to Armidale hospital for treatment before he was transported to Newcastle
Officers are waiting for the man’s condition in hospital to improve before he is spoken to by police.
No one else was injured, but investigations are continuing
