The society’s Photography, Sculpture and Ceramic Prize exhibition opened on Saturday and member Greg Roberts said it was a pleasant surprise.
“We had over 120 entries which was a fantastic response because it’s the first time we’ve run it,” Mr Roberts said.
“We were just doing it as a test run and we’ve had a such a good response in terms of the numbers and the quality that we will be definitely running it again.”
While sculpture and ceramic works were entered, photography was a crowd favourite, Mr Roberts said.
“They ranged from landscapes to portraits to macro photography and a few were very contemporary pieces,” he said.
“We just had a black and white section for photos and a colour next time we’ll have categories within those.
“We’re trying to get students involved more and more.
And we did get uptake this time by students.” The exhibition is showing at the Armidale Art Gallery in Beardy Street Mall.
