After seeing coverage of the alleged attack, a 15-year-old boy contacted police on Thursday night claiming the man tried to assault him earlier in the week.
The Colyton man, 41, will appear in Penrith Local Court on Friday, charged with assault occasioning actual body harm and intimidation of the 10-year-old.
He is also charged with aggravated assault and the attempted robbery of a 15-year-old boy on Shepherd Road, Colyton, on Tuesday, police said.
A woman named Shana - who did not give her surname - saw the alleged attempted abduction of the 10-year-old at Bennett Road Public School in Colyton.
"There was a man pulling a child," she said.
"The boy was holding on to the fence and screaming.
"I'm just glad we stopped, and took notice of this boy screaming."
The boy escaped unharmed after other parents intervened.
Sources said the tall, well-built man appeared to be intoxicated, and could have mistaken the child for one of his own.
A parent at the school told Channel Seven News that she had seen the man before at the school dropping off and collecting children.
Police said that parents held the man until officers arrived.
The man will also face charges of assaulting police and aggravated assault with the intention to rob. He will also be charged with breach of bail.
Police are urging anyone to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 if they know more, or if they have seen previous attacks by the man.
