Ten-to-50 visit passes will now be cheaper for children and more expensive for adults, councillors unanimously decided at last week’s council meeting.
The motion was put by deputy mayor Herman Beyersdorf. A
multi pass for 10 visits that previously cost $40.50 for all ages will now be $27 for children and $45 for adults.
A 50 pass will no longer cost $180, but $120 for children and $200 for adults.
Cr Beyersdorf said the changes were approved to make the passes consistent with single visit prices and allowances made in this financial year’s budget.
He also said the changes were part of a wider push to make young people active regardless of socio-economic status.
“That is the aim of the game-encouraging young people to get involved in sport,” he said.
“Adults have a bit more money in their pocket.
“This will encourage those from lower socio-economic backgrounds to use the pool.
“Council is doing it as a bit of a social service.”
The move to reduce passes comes after entry for children was dropped from $4.50 to just $2 during the summer holidays early this year.
A drop in price occurred after pressure from youth and school leaders who wanted the
fees dropped to provide additional activities for youth in the school holidays.
Price changes to the multi passes will go on display for 28 days and await any feedback.
