The rank warrant officer has served in the armed forces for 23 years, and gone to places such as Iraq and East Timor.
“They really support your family, and makes you not being there less of a burden,” Mr O’Regan said.
This year Mr O’Regan will be leading a team of army reservists, legatees and other volunteers to raise money for its badge week appeal.
Volunteers will be stationed in the Beardy Street Mall selling badges up to $2000.
Last year’s appeal raised $34,500 in New England, which helped 352 war widows.
Wristbands and teddy bears will also be sold.
