The Show Your Colours for the Chopper is a five-kilometre fun run where participants will be “colour bombed” at every kilometre.
Money raised will go towards the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
“We’ve organised this event as a great way for people in the New England to come along and run, jog, walk or crawl to show their support for the Rescue Helicopter while joining in all the fun, especially on Fathers’ Day,” Switchback events owner Liam Benson said.
“These type of events have become popular all over the world and we want to bring them to local communities and really be able to make a difference.”
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service’s average flight is $3500.
Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service Regional manager Lisa Thomas said she hoped the event would raise much-needed funds for the service.
“We now operate 24/7 with four pilots and four air crew to meet the growing demand,” Ms Thomas said.
“Now more than ever we need the ongoing support of the communities we serve to help keep this valuable search and rescue service in the air.
“Saving lives is one of the most rewarding things [and] we have a great volunteer base in Armidale.”
Armidale’s Show Your Colours for the Chopper will be held on September 6 at the University of New England.
