After being sent a scam email claiming to be from the Australian Federal Police, he came to The Express to warn residents.
The email claims Mr Johnson was fined by the federal authorities for “irresponsible driving” and owed $126.16.
The email initially appears to look authentic, but certain grammatical errors, a distinct lack of personal information such as a licence plate number, indicate the sender’s sinister intentions.
Mr Johnson wants residents to be sceptical of such emails.
“It looks fairly realistic, but when you click on that link it released a virus,” he said.
“We’ve had it happen before and it cost hundreds of dollars to get rid of the virus.
“I spoke to police and they did say it was a scam.”
