A 77-year old former Armidale teacher has been charged following police investigations into alleged historical child indecent assault offences in the city.

During the course of the investigation, six people, who were under the age of 16 years at the time of the alleged incidents, have come forward.
Detectives attached to New England Local Area Command established Strike Force Flair in June 2013, to investigate historic indecent assault allegations at a school in Armidale.
Police will allege between 1970 and 1974, a man indecently assaulted and assaulted a number of students while he was employed as a teacher at Ben Venue primary school.
About 8.30am on Wednesday, police arrested a 77-year-old man at a home in Armidale.
He has been charged with two counts of detain for advantage without causing injury to victim, 10 counts of assault female and commit act of indecency (victim under 16), and three counts of common assault.
The man has been granted conditional bail, to appear at Armidale Local Court on Monday, August 17.
