The cardboard avatars of students from Sekolah Tun Fatimah girls’ school in southern Malaysia have been shown the lay of the land in Armidale by their Australian peers.
Armidale High year 7 teacher Deborah Moore said the buddy program was part of the school’s participation in the Australia-Malaysia Bridge Project, run through the Asia Education Foundation.
“The kids at my school have created the pages for their flat traveller and they have to take their flat traveller around and create a digital story,” Ms Moore said. “They posted the story on their web pages.”
Maylasian chemistry teacher Rohaiza Tapsir said the program was already making a difference back at her school.
“They’re really improving their English too,” she said.
