Now, Mr Martin has received a thumbs up from Premier Mike Baird.
The Premier’s Volunteer Recognition Program award has acknowledged his 25 years of volunteering experience.
“You don’t do it for the recognition,” Mr Martin, 52, said.
He did it for the smiles.
Mr Martin regularly holds computer seminars, teaching the basics to people unfamiliar with computers.
On top of his many jobs at the Neighbourhood Centre Mr Martin also is part of Radio Watch, relaying accidents on the road spotted by truck drivers to the police.
“I’m on a disability pension myself so I know it can be a struggle but it’s great helping people turn that around,” he said.
He had no plans to retire.
