The New England Conservatorium of Music primary and secondary choirs had perfect pitch, winning all their sections at the Armidale Eisteddfod on Wednesday.
Conservatorium director Suzanne James said the organisation was proud of its young singers.
She said it was the first time that the secondary choir had won championships.
“It’s a really big milestone for the choir and it’s much deserved,” Ms James said. “[Singing] gives performers incredible self-confidence and the ability to stand up in front of audiences.”
The secondary New England Singers also excelled, taking out the under 19 vocal ensemble title.
Conservatorium primary choirs Cantilena and Cantilena Chorale also won both their sections.
Ms James was thrilled with the results.
“The choirs performed beautifully against some very tough competition,” she said.
The choir received a special treat following the competition on Wednesday, with acclaimed composer and adjudicator Gordon Hamilton conducting choral and composition workshops.
Hamilton said he was incredibly impressed by the high standard of musicianship by the New England Conservatorium of Music’s many singers.
“They are an extremely good choir,” Hamilton said.
“I’ve never heard a choir like them in the whole of Australia,” he said.
