Naran Singh produced a stellar effort to lead the Mark Gwynne-coached side to a 1-nil win over Tamworth FC.
But Gwynne believes the win should have been larger with his side dominating the match.
“We played really well, but we should have scored a few more,” Gwynne said.
“I suppose that’s the way football goes, but we really do have to start taking our chances.”
Gwynne said it was a pleasing result for the club against a side who are perennially strong.
“FC have lost a few players, but they still have a good side,” he said.
“They have been very successful over the last five or six years.
“It was good for us to win at home too.”
East were unlucky not to grab an early lead after a Naran Singh goal was called back due to an off-side call.
The scores stayed locked until 20 minutes into the second half when Hoani Morell opened the scoring.
“The ball was played down the left-hand side into Hoani,” Gwynne said.
“He hit it low and hard, it was a nice goal.”
East’s defence, led by Josh Clarke and first grade debutante Clive O’Connor held firm as the game drew to a close.
“Our defence was really good,” Gwynne said.
“Clive O’Connor played really well in his first game of first grade.”
Singh was named man of the match for another tremendous performance.
‘“He was the standout,” Gwynne said of Singh. “He’s improving all the time and he’s only 17.”
East have the coming weekend off with a bye, which comes at an inopportune time according to Gwynne.
“The week off won’t help,” he said.
“We were just starting to find our legs.
“We finally get a bit of momentum and a bit of structure and it all stops.”
In other matches around the northern conference, North Armidale drew with OVA 1-all and Demon Knights thrashed Namoi United 4-nil.
