The 86-year-old, pictured, has spent hours crocheting poppies for a wreath that will be laid by the Armidale Legacy branch at Gallipoli on Anzac Day.
She said she was thrilled to be part of the centenary celebrations.
“The wreath is not only from legatees but something from all of Armidale,” said Mrs Smith.
“It’s to remember everyone that was touched by war, [because] it’s not just the servicemen but the civilians as well.”
Despite the crocheting taking about an hour for every poppy on the 20-flower wreath, the task came easy as Mrs Smith has been crocheting since she was six years old.
She has a personal connection to war with her brother, husband and some grandchildren serving in wartime conflicts and is a member of the Laurel Club for Legacy widows. “I can’t speak highly enough of legacy,” she said.
