IT MAY have sparked a little inter-store rivalry, but when it’s over making the largest donation to charity, the end certainly justifies the means.

Crew members at Armidale Coles were set with a task of raising money for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter charity but decided to keep it local and direct their funds to the New England North West chopper. Manager Chris Marsh said his team were driven to contribute to the local fundraising total.
“There was a little bit of rivalry,” Mr Marsh said.
“But it’s for a charity, so it’s not really a competition.”
Andrew Harris said the Armidale team tried a variety of tactics to contribute to the overall goal of $22,000.
“We had dress up days for Halloween and a wishing well and we did raffles,” Mr Harris said.
“It ran within the store and the team.”
Pam Wilby from the Westpac Rescue Helicopters was only too happy to accept the store’s $2000 donation.
“It’s the first time this has been done locally,” Ms Wilby said.
