Part of the garden has been dedicated to the memory of Bruce Goldsmith, who worked at Qantas in maintenance engineering and in-flight crew emergency procedure training for 35 years.
After growing up in the city, Mr Goldsmith returned to Armidale to live in Ken Thompson Lodge, where he resided for two-and-a-half years before his death in 2014.
When Mr Goldsmith died, his workmates passed the hat around and gave enough money to enable the aged-care facility to construct the garden.
The garden has an Australian theme, paying homage to Mr Goldsmith’s particular love of native plants.
In a bittersweet visit to the city, Mr Goldsmith’s workmates Andrew Marchant and Doug Hadley unveiled the plaque immortalising their friend.
The garden is now able to be enjoyed by residents and staff.
