This group of players, otherwise known as gamers, have started a trend on campus with their Tuesday game night at the student hotspot.
On Tuesday night The ’Stro saw gaming fans flood through the doors, setting up their laptops or board games to play while they enjoyed a drink from the bar.
University of New England Gaming Society co-president David Stevenson-Relf said the night started as an idea among friends and exploded from there.
“We want to get a competition going against other universities,” he said.
And if you don’t happen to know your Dungeons and Dragons from World of Warcraft, Liam Carney said it is open slather for people to bring their own games along.
“We’ll have six or so TVs, but it’s BYO TVs laptops or games,” he said.
The society has its own stash of vintage board games, with the original Jumanji, Trouble and Game of Life in their stockpile, meaning there are plenty of games to choose from.
The 'Stro’s Ben Bible said games night wasn’t just for young people.
“We’ve had history lecturers wanting to come and set up their games – people are really getting into it,” he said.
“I’ve been blown away.”
Mr Bible said it was an example of how the space can be utilised for a number of quirky activities.
He encouraged anyone with a big idea to contact him on 6773 5186 or ben.bible@une.edu.au.
Games night kicks off at The Bistro from 6pm on Tuesdays, kicking on until late.
Interested participants can keep up with the players online at www.facebook.com/groups/UNEGamingSociety and request to join the group.
