A washout last weekend and the bye in two weeks’ time for the semi-final makes the next two weeks of cricket their last before meeting either City or Hillgrove in the grand final.
Easts skipper Sam Uphill said while they may have been in a precarious situation against City last weekend when the rain came, he was dearly hoping to get on the field, simply just to get some cricket in.
“I certainly wasn’t praying for rain,” he said.
“City must be sick of these washouts.
“But Steve Butler bowled well the week before and they deserved to be in front.
“In saying that I still would have backed ourselves, we only needed a couple of wickets to get back in it.”
Uphill was understandably delighted with his team making their second grand final of the season.
They shared the one-day premiership with City after the Australia Day grand final was washed out.
“It’s a pretty good turnaround,” he said of his side’s performance this season after a disappointing 2013/14. Uphill said he has no preference of a grand final opponent out of City and Hillgrove.
“We will just take it as it comes,” he said.
“I think City is a pretty hard side to beat.
“They have had a good year.
“But Hillgrove have some big game players so I won’t be writing them off.”
Easts will desperately try and regain form when their clash with Hillgrove begins tomorrow.
“Just getting some momentum is the main thing,” Uphill said.
“It is always dangerous having that weekend off before a grand final.
“But in saying that it will be good for some of us to rest up.”
