HEAVY machinery sitting stagnant on an empty Markham Street block will soon roar into action thanks to a state government funding announcement on Wednesday.

The block is set to house a custom-designed facility for five Armidale residents in need of round-the-clock care.
More than $1.25 million has been allocated to the project after Minister for Disability Services John Ajaka visited the site.
Before construction crews can break ground, Council needs to approve the development and a tendering process must take place, however, Mr Ajaka was confident there would be no problems.
“Construction of the new home is expected to start in May and be completed by the end of this year,” Mr Ajaka said.
Disability and Home Care New England senior manager Warren Sullivan said the facility would be unique in that it would allow permanent placement for the five residents.
“The thing about this facility is that it is an age in place home – meaning the care will adapt according to needs that may change as the residents age,” Mr Sullivan said.
“They can be there and stay there.”
Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall said residents and their families wouldn’t face relocation as the facility was built specifically to their needs.
