A clash of band dates and local events, such as university graduations, was cited as the main reason why the event will not be held this year, according to Roundhouse Entertainment promoter Michael Newton.
Talks will be held next week between Mr Newton and Petersons Winery owner Colin Peterson to see whether A Day on the Green will be held next season, between November and March, 2016.
A Day on the Green attracted up to 8000 visitors to Armidale when it was first launched in 2012.
Armidale Dumaresq Council committed $40,000 to the event until last year because it was such a tourist drawcard.
With 40 per cent of the 6500 tickets sold to people outside Armidale, it was estimated the event pumped $975,000 into the local ecoomy when it first began.
Armidale Dumaresq Mayor Laurie Bishop said the decision would leave a lot of fans disappointed.
“Unfortunately running a massive music event like this requires a lot of factors to align and this year it just couldn’t happen,” he said yesterday.
Hunters and Collectors, Something for Kate, Diesel and British India took to the stage at Petersons last year, while singer songwriters Neil Finn and Paul Kelly appeared at previous events.
A Day on the Green started in Victoria in 2001 on Australia Day.
Since then, it has grown to more than 30 concerts held at wineries around the country each year, held between October and March. Next season’s scheduling will not be finalised until later this year.
