Thanks to a flaw in the design of a roof of a toilet block that connects a basketball court to the main building, PCYC staff members have become accustomed to mopping up leaks after heavy storms.
However, with the help of the latest round of Community Building Partnership grants, PCYC manager Paul Salmon said dampened floors and spirits would be a thing of the past.
“It’s great to get the funding,” Mr Salmon said.
“That $13,500 grant is about equal to our annual budget for maintenance.”
Mr Salmon said sometimes an inch of water could end up on the floor after heavy rain.
“The water pools in the kitchen and the toilet block and there is condensation in the basketball court.”
The upgrade will be enough to keep the centre going, however, Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall said bigger things were on the cards.
“The long-term fix is a brand new building on a new site, but that is in the works,” Mr Marshall said.
“The proposal has been submitted.”
Mr Marshall said it was important to support the organisation which plays a big role in the community.
