Chapman, 35, has been a member of Australia's senior rowing team since 2003.
He has raced for Australia at under 23 and senior levels from 1999 to 2014, but his main achievement was the London Olympic Games in August, 2012.
"Working and rowing at an elite level requires a sacrificial approach to teamwork, discipline, planning, preparation and above all, perseverance," Chapman says.
He lives in Sydney where he is studying for a bachelor degree in accounting and law major at the University of Technology, Sydney while also working at Westpac.
Chapman was a reserve in the 2004 Athens Olympics and part of the sixth men's eight at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Armidale's Australia Day celebrations will take place at the Armidale Racecourse, Barney Street on Monday, January 26.
Celebrations start at 10.30am with the official Citizenship and Awards Ceremony taking place in front of the grandstand.
Fun activities for the family will follow from 11.30am and include the popular lamington eating contest, face painting, animal farm and a performance by the Armidale Pipe Band.
The Armidale Jockey Club will then host a full TAB race meeting kicking off from 1.30pm.
