Forsyths employees have collected about 40 presents, under their giving tree, which were donated the Armidale branch of the Salvation Army.

The gifts will be distributed to less fortunate families as part of the charity’s regular Christmas hampers.

Salvation Army volunteer Noeline Corcoran said wishing trees were vital for their Christmas fundraising efforts. 

“Without that we wouldn’t be able to provide gifts for children because being a charity that’s what you rely on, donations,” she said.

Ms Corcoran said the most prominent wishing tree was the one in Kmart, which has been sending them gifts since September.

Forsyths has been supporting The Salvation Army for at least six years. 

In addition to helping charity, the wishing tree had been great for employee morale, according to Forsyths administration assistant Kay Weiss.

“You get a good feeling from knowing that a child will wake up on Christmas and receive a present they might not otherwise have gotten,” she said.

Ms Corcoran said anyone who needed help providing presents this year could still contact The Salvation Army.

She estimated they would distribute about 120 hampers.
