The meeting also hosted five heats of the Armidale to Grafton, with the winners and runners up now scheduled to head to Grafton for the final on December 22.
Generous prize-money is on offer for that race too, with the winner to pocket $1220, second $350 and third $270. Leone North’s Hot Replica ($3.50) found it easy going in the first, storming to a five-length win over favourite Remember Dora ($2).
Stephen Attwater’s Navas ($1.50) was heavily fancied on track in the second race and rewarded punters with a three-length victory.
The favourites continued to shine in the third with Desmond Winters’ Sheds A Shakin’ ($1.40) rated far too good for the rest of the field and backed that up with an eight-length win.
Dennis Nixon’s Kikem Wish ($3) already has a fine record at Armidale and added to that on Saturday after edging out Stephen Attwater’s Aguero ($2.50) by a nose in the fourth.
Aguero will get another crack at Kikem Wish after both greyhounds qualified for the Armidale to Grafton final, with race four being the first heat.
Mark Craig’s Abelia ($21) sprung a huge upset in the fifth and is now also Grafton bound after beating Jasper Mulwee by a nose.
Falzoni ($3.50) became the third dog to win by a nose in as many races, after the Melanie Mabbott-trained greyhound beating favourite Kikem In Vane ($2.25) by the closest of margins.
Winters became the only trainer to score a double on the day after Divorce Imminent ($2) raced to a five-length win in the seventh.
Another short priced favourite, Mrs Deeks ($1.30) got up in the eighth and last of the five Armidale to Grafton heats.
Ranald Dawes’ Nanna’s Boy ($2.25) couldn’t be separated in price with Rip Stix before the race and the two were only just separated on the line, with Nanna’s Boy winning by a nose.
Simone Taylor’s Tongue Twister ($6) finished the day with a head win in the last.
