After a successful night in Evans Head last weekend, Porter’s boxers are back in action tomorrow night in Coffs Harbour.
Porter had six boxers pull the gloves on in Evans Head, headlined by new state champion Lindsay Frizell. Clarissa Edwards jumped into the ring for her debut bout and won by unanimous decision.
Rinah Gersbach went down a very close split point decision, while Benji Donovan was forced to fight in an exhibition after an opponent couldn’t be found.
Justin Shirdon also had his debut fight, but made sure the decision wouldn’t be left to the judges.
Shirdon knocked out his opponent after just 29 seconds in a dominant performance. “He was over the moon,” Porter said of Shirdon.
“We had a good plan going in and it worked.”
Ken Hodges also went down in a split decision, but his trainer was anything but disappointed.
“It was a very close fight, it could have gone either way,” Porter said.
“It’s probably the best Ken has ever fought.”
The same six fighters as well as Caitlin Slick, who will make her ring debut, will be in action again tomorrow night at Coffs Harbour.
“Everyone is very excited,” Porter said.
“They have been training really hard and it’s time for that to pay off.”
Porter hasn’t ruled out going to one more fight night somewhere around the region before 2014 ends. “I’m unsure if this will be the last one,” he said.
“We will wait and see how we go this weekend.”
