Go Dragon ($2.60) was backed heavily on track and rewarded punters with as he cruised to a four length victory in the second race of the Armidale Jockey Club’s annual White Ribbon race meeting. It was an Armidale quinella in the race as Keith Smith’s Seaside Tiger ($21) ran second.

The crowd was slightly disappointing for the White Ribbon day, but that can likely be put down to the blistering heat Armidale faced on Saturday.

Proceeds from the day will be donated to the White Ribbon foundation, although the final figure has yet to be determined.

“The crowd was a little bit low,” Armidale Jockey Club secretary Jim Dedes said. 

“It was still a good day’s racing and it provided great awareness for the White Ribbon Foundation.”

Go Dragon also caught the eye of Dedes. 

“It was an impressive run,” he said.

Race four winner Quietude ($2.25) was the other runner of the day that impressed Dedes.

“It’s always had a bit of a wrap on it and it ran very well,” he said.

Wayne Oakenfull’s All Is Bright ($1.65) was extremely short on track for the first race and showed punters why with a six and a half length win. 

Tamworth trainer Sue Grills trained the winner of the third with Albemarle ($7) beating Diva’s Dane by a short head.

The White Ribbon Cup was the signature event of the day and was taken out by Michelle Fleming’s Idle Shiver ($4.80).

Colt Prosser trained the quinella in the final event with Three Lucky Eights ($41) causing a huge upset to beat stablemate Amber Alert by a head.
