After finishing second last year, Armidale ensured they went one better in 2014.
Unfortunately only three teams entered the men’s division.
Along with the champion Armidale side and runners up Gunnedah, an Armidale under 18s side was the only other team in the division. All three teams played five round robin matches, which saw Armidale finish on top of the pool.
Gunnedah narrowly knocked off the Armidale under 18s in the qualifying final to advance to the grand final.
But they were no match for the eventual champions, with Armidale prevailing
6-4.
Mike Ware, Wes and Ryan Kelly and Gary Quinlan were the standouts for Armidale over the course of the carnival.
The mixed division was much more competitive with six sides in action.
Gunnedah were again the bridesmaids, going down 4-3 to the Yamba Yabbies in the grand final.
Armidale 1 made the semi-finals, but were knocked off 8-4 by Gunnedah.
In the women’s divison there was again only three sides entered, but neither Gunnedah or Armidale could compete with a dominant Tamworth side.
Tamworth went through unbeaten, winning all their matches by a huge margin, including their 12-2 thumping of Gunnedah in the grand final.
