The Wandering Warriors will take a well-deserved rest in the city when they arrive tomorrow afternoon.
As part of the mega-challenge the band is raising awareness and money for charities that help soldiers who have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Twelve former SAS troops are undertaking the journey, along with 34 support staff.
From 5pm tomorrow the Warriors will host a barbecue, including New England lamb on a spit, at the Showground to raise money for the cause. Entry is a gold coin donation.
There will be an official ceremony at Curtis Park at 10am, with displays from 11am.
With military precision the Warriors will then be escorted down the highway towards Uralla for a day organised to welcome the Warriors on Saturday.
Organiser of the Uralla event Russ French said there were plans for a Kiowa helicopter to fly-by as part of the welcome but this has been changed as it has been put on standby for anti-terror duties.
He said there would be lots for people to see, with the event kicking off at 11.30am with a welcoming from Uralla mayor Michael Pearce.
Wandering Warriors chief executive Audie Moldre said the money raised supported the rehabilitation of wounded and ill veterans and helped them transition back to civilian life after service.
He said the organisation supported the SAS Resources Trust, Commando Welfare Trust, Project Excalibur, White Cloud Foundation, Young Diggers and the Navy Clearance Diver Trust in their work with returned servicemen and women.
“Our aim is to care for the carers; we do not support the veterans directly,” Mr Moldre said.
