UNE students are making their final preparations for a series of productions of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Fifty cast and crew are working towards three night time productions of The Bard’s famous comedy.
They will be performing a series of outdoor night time productions at Booloominbah which will be illuminated by paper lanterns and fire wranglers.
UNE lecturer Julie Shearer is co-directing the plays with Lisa Goldzieher.
Dr Shearer said as an educator she wanted to show her students how much fun Shakespeare can be.
“I have an evangelical love of Shakespeare but some of my students have had really bad experiences with Shakespeare in high school,” she said.
“I find if it’s well taught and well performed Shakespeare is for everyone.”
The university is hosting multiple productions so all the students taking part get to perform.
Dr Shearer said this means multiple students will play the same role on different nights which shows how different actors interpret the characters.
UNE music students are taking part in the productions too with Joy Kerr and Max Powell composing the score.
Tickets cost $20 for an adult, $10 for a concession or $40 for a family and can be purchased on the night, Carrs Xpress or une.edu.au/midsummer.
