There were no reports of injuries.
Police, ambulance and the fire brigade attended the scene at about 8.15am this morning.
The runway was closed for about an hour and a half.
A spokeswoman from Armidale Dumaresq Council said the aircraft landed with its wheels up on the main runway.
"Until the Australian Transport Safety Bureau has undertaken their investigation, it is not known whether this occurred due to mechanical failure," the spokeswoman said.
"There was a slight disruption to passenger services with a Qantas flight due at 9.30am delayed by approximately 15 minutes.
"It is fortunate that the emergency response plan was the subject of a table top exercise earlier in the year as it enabled a quick response and everyone was aware of their role," she said.
