This Sunday an informal group of Armidale residents are calling on the community to join a rally aimed at talking about what can be done at a grassroots level to combat climate change.
One of the rally organisers, Jo Leoni, said while the rally would send a message to politicians it would also talk about what people can change about their everyday lives.
“There are probably quite a lot of times we use a car when we could have walked or gone by bike and it would have been better for us,” she said.
“Serious action on climate change needs to be taken; the people understand this but out politicians are slow to get the message.”
The event is one of many organised across the world as part of the People’s Climate Mobilis-ation held to pressure world leaders attending the UN’s World Climate Summit in New York.
Those wanting to take part in Armidale can gather at the Farmer’s Market on Sunday at 11am.
Organisers will then take the rally away from the market into the park.
Ms Leoni said she hoped people would bring music and stand up to give speeches but so far nothing formal was planned.
