Michael Booby is now facing an additional set of charges including two aggravated break and enter, commit a serious indictable offence, take and drive conveyance without consent and police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly. People were inside the house during the time of the alleged break and enter.
Booby’s defence solicitor Peter Kemp said his client had been in custody for some time because of three additional sets of charges.
“[Fresh charges] keep coming out of the woodwork,” Mr Kemp said.
Booby is also facing a set of 16 charges, which were laid in March, seven of which relate to aggravated break and enter and one charge being in possession of housebreaking implements.
Within this matter he was alleged to have led officers in a police pursuit where he failed to stop, was driving recklessly and had resisted arrest.
Booby was also charged with two counts of taking and driving a vehicle without consent, driving without ever being licenced, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driving recklessly or speeding in a dangerous manner, and negligent driving.
Crown prosecutor Peter Wood told Magistrate Mark Richardson the police pursuits in the two separate sets of charges had “linked the break and enters”.
The second matter was related to a count of aggravated break and enter, commit a serious indictable offence – people there and stalking and intimidation. The third was a charge of break, enter and steal to the value of less than $60,000. Both these sets of charges were laid in May.
One set of charges relating to break and enters has not yet been referred to the Director of Public Prosecution but police prosecutor Jim McDonald said he would see to it.
Booby’s case will return before the court on October 22.
