The win over Baa Baas was Robb’s final tune up before the finals with the side having the bye again this weekend.
“It was a pleasing win considering we had so long off,” Robb coach Sam Ditchfield said.
“Barbarians have been travelling well too.
“But I thought we played well.”
Baa Baas started the better of the two sides and turned down a couple of kickable penalty opportunities early in favour of going for tries, but were held out by a stout Robb defence.
Baa Baas eventually opted to take the three points to nab a slender lead after 20 minutes. Robb responded with tries from flanker Cedrick Fadel and winger Joe Melino to lead 12-3 at the break.
“They were the only two times we got into their half,” Ditchfield said. “The boys made the most of limited opportunities.”
A penalty just after half time extended Robb’s lead to 15-3, which is where the score line stayed until the final 10 minutes.
Robb halfback Joe Evans crossed to push the buffer out to 20-3, but a late try to Baa Baas brought it back to 20-8.
“They’re a good side,” Ditchfield said of Barbarians.
“To perform the way we did was outstanding.”
Lachie Fletcher was best on ground for Robb in a performance that pleased Ditchfield.
“He had his best game of the season by far,” the Robb coach said.
“Tom Kent, Jock Tonkin and David James were good as well.”
With the bye this weekend, Robb will have only played one match in a month, but Ditchfield isn’t worried.“It won’t do us any harm,” he said. “We’ve got more blokes coming back from injury.
“We will use it to start preparing for the finals.”
