DID YOU KNOW?
Canadian architest John Horbury Hunt designed both the St Peter's Anglican Cathedral and Booloominbah at the University of New England.
On 21 December 2006, hail stones, high winds and flash flooding damaged more than 1000 homes and destroyed the Armidale Livestock Exhibition Centre which collapsed entirely under the weight of accumulated hail.
Endangered species that may be seen in New England include the Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby which may be spotted in isolated sections of Oxley Wild Rivers National Park.

SCHOOLS across Armidale are being encouraged to take part in National Literacy and Numeracy Week, which runs until August 31.
Literacy activities this year are A Poem in Your Pocket and Read for Australia. The numeracy activity is Reach for the Stars.
A Poem in Your Pocket invites students to write a poem in any form they chose and share it with their friends, classmates, family and communities.
Read for Australia will provide all schools with the chance to take part in a simultaneous reading of the book Sunday Chutney by Aaron Blabey at 2pm on Friday, August 29.
The numeracy activity Reach for the Stars has the theme drinking water. Students will identify, count and measure the sources of water in their community.
Local schools wanting to be involved in the week can access a large range of free online resources at www.literacyandnumeracy.gov.au.
Temps will range between zero to 14 degrees today. Partly cloudy with light winds. Find out more here.
Armidale's weekend is shaping up to be a minimum of -1 to an expected top of 15 degrees on Saturday with the cloud cover sticking around.
Sunday is expected to be a sunny, warm day with a top of 17. Light winds becoming stronger during the day.
