The gates will open at the Armidale Jockey Club tomorrow for the first time since May 26 and if the weather permits a big crowd is expected to flock to the track.
After a successful 2013/14 racing season, Armidale will host 12 meetings for the 2014/15 season.
“We are really looking forward to it,” Armidale Jockey Club secretary Jim Dedes said.
“We had a good run last season and we are hoping this one will be as good.”
Ninety-three nominations were received for the six races on the cards tomorrow.
The feature event is race six New England Mutual Benchmark 55 Handicap over 1100 metres.
“One race was a bit light on in nominations, but the rest were very good,” Dedes said.
“We are hoping for a good day to kick off the season.”
With rain again forecast this weekend, Dedes said they are preparing for a wet track.
“The track is a bit discoloured at the moment, but it has a good covering of grass,” he said.
“The frost knocks it around a bit.
“We are expecting it to be damp on the weekend, but it will be fine to race on, it just means there will be a bit of sting out of the ground.”
The first race is at 1.37pm with the last at 4.43pm.
