A STRONG performance of southern-hemisphere style running rugby from a touring UK schoolboy team paid dividends for Wimbledon College against The Armidale School at TAS on Wednesday afternoon.

In a game where 40 TAS players from the Firsts to the Fourths were rotated in year groups through four quarters, the Wimbledon boys took the points 39-5.
“Once they are in the Opens division our Year 11 and 12 boys rarely get to chance to play in their year, and they enjoyed the opportunity to play with their mates in a collegial setting despite the end result,” coach Jamie Moore said.
The only points for TAS were scored in the third quarter, with a try to Lachlan Pollard.
Moore said the visitors played well and with great spirit.
“They were enthusiastic and like to spread the ball around, playing a fast, free-flowing game which was uncharacteristic of the Northern Hemisphere style of rugby,” he said.
“A strong backline and speed on the wings meant they certainly had the advantage on the day.”
TAS was the only regional NSW school on the five-school itinerary of the visitors.
“We have a proud tradition of a mid-week game against a touring side, and being halfway between Sydney and Brisbane makes it an attractive option for everyone.
“I guess another plus was we got through the match without any injuries before playing host to Shore School from Sydney this weekend,” Moore said.
