Its Local Food Working Group polled 445 people on whether or not they believed more local food was a good idea.
Responses showed 77 per cent of shoppers believed “local” meant grown in the New England Region. Labelling appeared to be the biggest setback for buying more local.
Sixty per cent of those surveyed said they sought local labels; 45 per cent thought there was a lack of appropriate labelling and 40 per cent said information about local food was not readily available.
UNE’s School of Behavioural, Cognitive and Social Sciences senior lecturer Navjot Bhullar will provide an in-depth analysis of the data.
