Curtis Park was awash with colour and some outrageous outfits as more than 400 riders set off for Tour de Rocks.
Riders began leaving Armidale at 7am for the 97 kilometre day one ride, while Tobin was part of the last group to leave the park just after 8.30am.
Tobin carried out his usual half-hourly weather broadcasts, which are televised around Australia, from 6am right through until 8.30am.
"I can't wait for the ride," he told the Armidale Express this morning.
