YOUNG riders from over 22 pony clubs from across NSW will get into the saddle when the New England Girls’ School’s Pony Club hosts its inaugural showjumping championships on August 25 and 26.
More than 60 riders from six pony club from as far as the Hunter, Central West, the Mid and Far North Coast, New England and North West areas will compete in two undercover arenas at the NEG’s Equestrian Centre with all grades catered for, from E grade up to A grade.
NEG’s Pony Club’s secretary Megan Scrivener said the event has had a strong interest so far.
“It’s a bit out of the norm to have such a high number of A grade entries,” she said.
“But for riders from four zones, this is the selection event for the area three showjumping Team to compete at the 2013 Royal Easter Show.”
Scrivener said the event is not just for those experienced riders.
“It will be wonderful for the younger and less experienced riders to be able to watch the A grade competitors,” she said.
Riders as young as eight years of age have entered to compete across each grade’s five events while the oldest competitors are 22 years of age.
NEGS Equestrian Centre is currently in the process of redeveloping its cross country course but will not be ready in time for this month’s event.
The course that has been designed by Olympic designer Wayne Copping will be completed in time for the NEGS one day even in early October.
