Millions of Christians will be marking the coming days as the time when Jesus was resurrected.
For many, especially the sweet tooths in town, Easter also includes plenty of chocolate eggs and bunnies.
Armidale’s Woolworths said it was unable to give an exact amount of Easter eggs stocked, saying there were “lots”, while Coles said it had “tens of thousands in stock”.
People travelling this long weekend will find Armidale an expensive place to fill up compared with other regional centres, with the average price of unleaded petrol at 160.9 cents a litre.
Head of media with the NRMA Peter Khoury said while petrol prices were typically more consistent in regional areas than they were in Sydney, Armidale’s petrol was among the states most expensive.
The only townships more expensive last week included Griffith at an average of 161 cents per litre, Mudgee at 161.5 cents, Lithgow at 162 cents and Tumut at 164.9 cents.
Mr Khoury said the prices are because of a lack of competition from independent petrol stations to keep prices down.
“If you are going away with your family this Easter the NRMA advises Armidale motorists to fill up in towns along the way where they could save a few cents on fuel,” he said.
“Unfortunately they are not getting cheap fuel in Armidale.”
Meanwhile police are urging motorists to drive safely over the Easter long weekend, with Operation Tortoise already underway.
Double demerit points have been in place since 12.01am and will apply until 11.59pm on Monday.
