Unlucky at State League

ARMIDALE hosted the final round of the State League netball competition on Sunday and the local side were unlucky to claim the top position.

They missed securing the home grand final by just one point.

Sunday’s competition  saw each side play four games, with a combined point score determining who claimed top position on the ladder at Lynches Road courts.

In the Armidale side’s first game against Glen Innes the team had a 12-point lead going into half time.

The side were unable to maintain their convincing lead as they made a number of changes at the break.

Glen Innes fought hard to close the gap and the Armidale side was unable to dominate awith the match resulting in a 50-all draw.

Game two saw Armidale face off against Inverell and as predicted they dominated the inconsistent side, winning 56-36.

Armidale then battled it out with Moree and again dominated play to claim a 53-25 victory.

Armidale faced Tamworth in the final game of the day and defeated them convincingly  57-17.

Armidale had to settle for second place in the overall point score behind Tamworth as a result of being unable to dominate Glen Innes in an earlier game.

Tamworth are one point ahead of Armidale on the State League ladder and are now set to host the grand final, to be held on August 25.
