A turkey is suspected to have met with foul play after its owner reported the bird missing in just one of a number of cases of festive season grinchery to have occurred in and around Armidale.
The turkey was reported stolen last Friday morning from a Dumaresq property on Bellwood Road.
The owner, who breeds poultry, told police someone must have entered his property between 7am and 11.30am and made off with the bird.
The owner didn’t believe the turkey had been taken by a fox or a dog, instead it is suspected it was taken for Christmas dinner.
Armidale police said it was highly unlikely the turkey would be recovered intact.
Anyone who saw the culprit make off with their ill-gotten gain or has any information about the incident is urged to contact Armidale police.
Meanwhile there have been a number of other petty thefts reported by residents in the past few days.
Among them was the case of Tylor Patton, who had his bicycle stolen from outside his home in south Armidale on Christmas Day.
His family arrived home from a family gathering to discover the bike was missing.
“When we told him this (Boxing Day) morning he was upset,” mother Tarnia Patton said.
