Andrew Skinner (50) and Karl Triebe (55) came together at 7-143 and helped the side reach 270.
City’s Andrew Brownlie said Saturday’s game showed the side had plenty of depth this year. “Our batters continue to put runs on the board and Skinner and Triebe showed they can bat as well,” he said.
Triebe went on to gain selection into the Central North side to contest the country championships next month.
“It shows we bat to 11 and that is pretty handy when the top order doesn’t score runs.
“But at the end of the day it is still up to the batters.”
Ben Welch caused the damage for Easts with the ball and took four wickets off 63 runs. Easts went into Saturday’s clash without five of its regular first XI.
But Brownlie said his side was still wary of Easts. “We never want to read too much into those type of things and we were also missing three of our players,” he said.
Easts’ opening batsman, Welch (59) led the charge with the bat. But the side suffered against the City bowlers with the likes of Andrew Brownlie taking 4-43.
Meanwhile in the other first grade clash Hillgrove claimed a convincing 93-run victory over Ex-Services.
Hillgrove notched 6-209 while Ex-Services were all out for 116.
Hillgrove’s in-form Michael Dawson scored 61 runs.
Meanwhile Servies’ top scorers were Brad Widders (22) and Luke Brown (22).
Hillgrove’s bowling efforts were led by Matt Schaefer who took 3-20 while Scott Brennan, Brad King and PJ Wright all took two wickets.
