Waugh ran the 53 kilometre race at the Washpool National Parks near Glen Innes and he said it was great to do a race so close to home.
“The Washpool 50 is almost our local ultra-run so I was really keen to run this year. It's a stunning course and quite tough, especially with high temperatures and humidity,” he said.
“I must admit I didn't know how the running would go now that I am the wrong side of 40 years of age but I'm really enjoying it at the moment and that's the most important thing.”
Following last weekend’s victory Waugh is well on the way on his come-back trail. Waugh is gearing up to tackled the Great North West 100, a 100 mile race between Sydney and Newcastle.
“I have really started to enjoy running again and I have learnt to be smarter with my training,” Waugh said.
“100 mile races have been my pet event but I have really suffered in the last few ones I have done.
“But I have done some decent training for this one.”
Waugh will race the GNW100 on November 9.
