Our boys punish Tamworth rivals

NORTHS and Demon Knights took down defending premiers Oxley Vale Attunga and Southern Conference leaders Tamworth respectively in Premier League matches on Saturday.

Norths led from the start at Phil Wheaton Oval, benefitting from a strong midfield team of Alex Cornish, Jason Boundy and David Griffith.

Two goals from Willow Grieves and one from Tom Model brought the team to 3-0 at halftime.

Despite two goals scored late in the second half by OVA, the Redmen continued to play a solid game until full-time, taking down last year’s champions 5-2.

Norths assistant coach John Edmunds praised the performance of the team through the entirety of the game.

“We had a solid second half, and the domination for the first 45 minutes helped us to win the game,” he said.

“Willow Grieves obviously put in a fantastic performance, but the whole midfield really played solidly throughout.”

Norths will head down to Tamworth this weekend to play against Norths Companions.

Meanwhile, Demon Knights defeated Southern Conference leaders Tamworth FC 2-0 at Rologas Fields.

Tamworth has scored 35 goals overall this season, but failed to break through the Knights’ defence throughout the match.

Geoff Donnan and Joshua Quaife scored a goal each for the Knights, with several other close calls through the first half.

Coach Alan Waddle said all players came together to put in a strong effort.

“They’re all playing for one another and it was a brilliant team effort,” he said.

“Joshua Quaife obviously made a great individual contribution with his goal, but the team played well together and it was definitely a well-deserved win.”
