Bronwyn and David Mitchell, who run Glenhope Alpacas, will hold an open day as part of National Alpaca Week.
Ms Mitchell said the day provides a way to share insights into the business of rearing alpacas with anyone who was interested in learning more.
“We’re certainly passionate about it,” she said.
The Mitchells will give visitors a rundown on how to care for alpacas. The Mitchells bought their first alpacas in 2000 as guards for their sheep.
The couple decided to transition permanently to the animals after a couple of years.
“There’s lots of pluses over sheep,” Ms Mitchell said.
“[The fleeces] are softer, lighter and warmer than wool.”
Ms Mitchell said visitors to the bed and breakfast run on the property are often interested in seeing the alpacas.
“You have the spectrum; some are just happy to sit here and look at the cuteness of them, whereas others want to be out with us and learning about them,” she said.
The free open day will run from 10am to 4pm at the property, located on Red Gum Lane, off Boorolong Road.
