Huge turnout for rodeo

16 Nov, 2009 09:33 AM
THE ARMIDALE Four-Seasons Rodeo was a huge success on the weekend with a record crowd of 5000 people turning up to the showground for a variety of events.

Saturday saw the biggest crowd of the weekend witness the NSW State Championships while yesterday was the NSW Junior State Championships.

“It went extremely well, we had a record crowd and 400 entries on Saturday and 250 entries on Sunday and everyone enjoyed themselves,” Nick Rice, president of Armidale Four Seasons Rodeo, told The Express.

Sadly none of the locals were able to hit top form and didn’t make it into the winners list with David Rice just missing out by one hundredth of a second.

The newly crowned champion is Greg Frewim who is now the NSW all-round cowboy.

He was outstanding in his efforts on Saturday.

The NSW all-round cowgirl award went to Jo Farquhar who was also a standout performer.

Tim Amey was crowned the bull-riding champ while the Saddlebroncs was split three ways between Luke Morgan, Michael Murray and Angus Pinkerton.

Deon Lane took out the bareback broncs, which was a good reward for the rider after he travelled all the way from North Queensland to compete.

Katrina Hutton was the winner of one of the feature events taking the prize in the ladies’ barrel race.

The roping events were also popular with the calf roping won by David Hallam and the team roping going to the team of David Hallam and Joel Mancell.

“We would like to thank all of our sponsors, of which there was over 50 from Armidale and the local area, without their help we couldn’t have done it so a big thanks must go to them,” Rice said.

“It was just great we were able to put such a showcase on for Armidale and the New England region,” Nick said.
